FULTON, N.Y. - The Cortland men's cross country team placed fourth out of 10 schools at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships. The meet was hosted by SUNY Oswego at the Battle Island State Park Golf Course.
Geneseo repeated as league champion with 24 points, followed by Plattsburgh (62), Fredonia (84), Cortland (133) and Brockport (141).
Junior
Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) was Cortland's top individual with a 19th-place time of 26:44.77 over 8,000 meters. Geneseo's Lee Berube won his second straight title in 24:54.59. Senior
Brendan Brethel (Lynbrook) placed 24th in 27:02.62 and sophomore
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 29th in 27:12.66.
Cortland's next five runners all finished in the top 50 of the 125-runner field. Junior
Jon Tuttle (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) was 36th in 27:27.83, followed directly by sophomore
Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in 37th place in 27:34.02.
Freshman
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) finished 42nd (27:46.40), senior
Nick Jeror (Rome/Rome Free Academy) was 43rd (27:47.30) and senior
Andrew Brusso (Elmira/Southside) crossed the line 47th (27:54.15).
