Cortland Finishes 15th at NCAA Div. III Championships; Dalton Earns All-America Honors

Junior Alyson Dalton earned All-America honors with a 31st-place finish

WAVERLY, IOWA - Cortland junior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) earned All-America honors with a 31st-place finish at the NCAA Div. III Cross Country Championships hosted by Wartburg College. The Red Dragons finished 15th out of 32 teams with 432 points. Middlebury captured the team title with 185 points, followed by Washington of Missouri (193), MIT (214), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (218) and Williams (230).

Senior Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence won the individual crown, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 20:49.3. Dalton posted a time of 21:42.5 as Cortland's top finisher. The top-35 runners earned All-America accolades. Senior Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial) was Cortland's second finisher in 135th place (22:40.9), followed by sophomore Jordyn Naylon (Fairport), 138th in 22:42.8, junior Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy), 159th in 22:53.5, and senior Kristin Vespa (Ossining), 162nd in 22:54.6.

Cortland's two other competitors were freshman Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville), 170th in 22:56.6, and senior Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira/Thomas A. Edison), 175th in 22:57.5. A total of 279 runners competed in the championships.

The Red Dragons placed ninth as a team in 2008.
