Cortland Takes Title at St. Lawrence Holiday Relays

Zac Farnham-Haskell won the 400 meters and led off the winning 4x200-meter relay
CANTON, N.Y. – Cortland earned four first-place and seven second-place finishes on its way to the team title at the six-team St. Lawrence University Holiday Relays. The Red Dragons scored 134 points and the host Saints were second with 95 points. Also competing were Utica (79), Delhi (65), Plattsburgh (59) and Oneonta (47).

Junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) won the 400 meters with an ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying time of 50.29 seconds. He also was part of the 4x200-meter relay team that won with an ECAC time of 1:32.53. Farnham-Haskell opened the relay, followed by freshman Stephan Linton (Roosevelt), senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal) and senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk).

Junior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) won the pole vault with an ECAC height of 4.60 meters (15' 1”) and junior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) won the long jump at 6.69 meters (21' 11.5”).

Four of Cortland's runner-up finishers were ECAC qualifiers – junior Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) in the 800 meters (1:56.45), sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in the shot put (14.35 meters/47' 1”), sophomore Daniel Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) in the pole vault (4.40 meters/14' 5.25”) and sophomore Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) in the triple jump (13.60 meters/44' 7.5”).

Freshman Tim Scheftic (Dryden) placed second in the long jump at 6.55 meters (21' 6”) and freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) was second in the weight throw at 13.80 meters (45' 3.5”). The 4x400-meter relay squad of sophomore Eric Banks (Westbury), freshman Cody Amengual (West Babylon), freshman Michael Kelly (Coram/Longwood) and Fitzpatrick placed second in 3:30.19.

Cortland earned the top four spots in the pole vault for 28 of its 134 team points. In addition to Pericozzi's win and Fugazot's second-place finish, freshman Paul Cuthbert (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) placed third at 4.25 meters (13' 11.25”) and freshman Tom Calandra (Williamsville/Williamsville North) finished fourth at 4.10 meters (13' 5.25”).

Amengual finished third in the 800 meters (1:57.23), Torres was third in the weight throw (13.71 meters/44' 11.75”) and freshman Kenny Sinclair (Rochester/James Monroe) was third in the triple jump (13.44 meters/44' 1.25”). Senior Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.36), freshman Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) was fourth in the shot put (13.82 meters/45' 4.25”) and Bisceglia finished fifth in the 400 meters (51.92).
