Razzano NCAA Provisional Qualifier in Triple Jump at Cornell Relays

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the triple jump and seven other Red Dragons qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships as the Cortland men's indoor track and field team opened its season at the Cornell Relays.

Razzano finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.36 meters (47' 1.5”). Sophomores Dash Ellis (Tomkins Cove/North Rockland) and Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) qualified for ECACs in the event. Ellis was seventh at 14.00 meters (45' 11.25”) and Ofosu finished 12th at 13.59 meters (44' 7”).

A pair of Red Dragons qualified for ECACs in the long jump. Junior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) finished third at 6.78 meters (22' 3”) and freshman Tim Scheftic (Dryden) tied for sixth at 6.74 meters (22' 1.5”). Junior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) met ECAC standards with his seventh place pole vault of 4.65 meters (15' 3”). His height was actually tied for the third best, but he finished seventh due to number of misses.

Also qualifying for ECACs were junior Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) in the 500-meter dash (sixth place, 1:07.86) and sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in the shot put (seventh place, 14.57 meters/47' 9.75”).

Two of Cortland's 4x400-meter relay teams finished in the top 10. Sophomore Eric Banks (Westbury), junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal) and senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) placed third in 3:26.18. Freshman Stephan Linton (Roosevelt), Fitzpatrick, freshman Cody Amengual (West Babylon) and freshman Ryan Ainsworth (Bath/Bath Haverling) finished ninth in 3:31.40. The 4x800-meter relay unit of freshmen Jack McNamara (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury), Craig Nevins (Hurley/Kingston), Michael Kelly (Coram/Longwood) and Matt McNamara (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) finished in sixth place (8:23.25).

Bisceglia finished fifth in the 300-meter dash (35.37), with Farnham-Haskell placing 10th (35.92) and Banks 15th (36.34). Sophomore Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished fifth (16:01.05) and junior Jon Tuttle (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) was seventh (16:18.20) in the 5,000 meters. Amengual was seventh in the 500-meter dash (1:08.37).

Senior Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.65), with junior Alex Williams (Baldwin) placing 10th (8.80). Junior Sean Twomey (Cornwall) finished 10th in the 5,000 meters (16:45.88) and freshman Ryan Perry (Amherst/Williamsville North) was 15th in the 3,000 meters (9:21.58).

Torres, in addition to his shot put showing, finished 12th in the weight throw at 12.86 meters (42' 2.25”). Freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished ninth in the weight throw at 13.79 meters (45' 3”) and 14th in the shot put at 12.86 meters (42' 2.25”). Sophomore Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) was 10th in the weight throw at 13.31 meters (43' 8”) and 13th in the shot put at 13.08 meters (42' 11”).

In addition, freshman Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 11th in the shot put (13.29 meters/43' 7.25”) and freshman Kenny Sinclair (Rochester/James Monroe) was 14th in the triple jump (13.38 meters/43' 10.75”). Freshman Paul Cuthbert (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) and sophomore Daniel Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) tied for 14th place in the pole vault, each clearing 4.35 meters (14' 3.25”).
