Distance Medley Relay Among ECAC Qualifiers at Cornell Relays

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team turned in four ECAC-qualifying performances, led by a second-place finish in the distance medley relay, at the season-opening Cornell Relays.

The quartet of freshman Allison Boriello (Montgomery/Valley Central), junior Abby Vander Veen (Delanson/Faith Bible Academy), sophomore Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) and sophomore Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) finished the distance medley relay in 12:49.19.

In the 60-meter dash, freshman Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) placed seventh with a time of 8.04 seconds that qualifies her for the ECAC 55-meter dash. Two Red Dragons qualified for ECAC's in the 55-meter hurdles with their finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished 10th in 9.55 seconds (9.51 in prelims) and sophomore Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) was 12th in 9.57 seconds.

Three of the DMR participants also finished in the top 15 in the 500-meter dash. Fairbanks finished fourth in 1:22.22, Naylon placed sixth in 1:23.39 and Boriello was 14th in 1:26.00.

Freshman Bianca Benavides (Coram/Longwood) finished 11th in the 60-meter dash (8.11), while freshman Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) and junior Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed 12th (11:04.88) and 13th (11:05.44), respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.

Two Red Dragon 4x400-meter relay squads earned top-10 finishes. Junior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland), junior Jenna Evarts (West Islip), junior Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) and Vander Veen finished fourth (4:11.08). Freshman Trisha Clark (Pulaski), sophomore Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa), sophomore Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) and freshman Kristen Schieck (East Northport/Half Hollow Hills West) placed ninth (4:16.54).

In the 4x800-meter relay, the combination of freshman Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg), freshman Laura Quercia (Marcellus), senior Stephanie McGrath (Camillus/West Genesee) and freshman Sami Randazzo (Suffern) finished in eighth place in 10:21.30.

In the field events, sophomore Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) finished ninth in the triple jump at 10.61 meters (34' 9.75”) and sophomore Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was ninth in the shot put at 10.91 meters (35' 9.5”). Senior Sarah Wignall (Weedsport) cleared 3.00 meters (9' 10”) to place 10th in the pole vault. In the high jump, graduate student Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) finished 10th and freshman Alex Budd (Riverhead) placed 13th. Both cleared 1.55 meters (5' 1”), with their places determined by number of misses.
