ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Cortland athletes placed in the top five and another four earned spots in the top 10 of their events at the men's indoor track and field Marc Deneault Invitational. The meet was hosted by Cornell University and featured more than 900 competitors from 20 teams over the combined men's and women's meets.
Freshman
Josh Daves (Huntington) turned in a third-place effort in the long jump with a leap of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5”). Senior
Joe Keleher (Newfane) and senior
Schuyler Field (Queensbury) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault. Both cleared 4.35 meters (14' 3.25”), but Keleher earned the higher spot due to number of misses. Freshman
Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished fifth in the shot put at 14.24 meters (46' 8.75”) and was 11th in the weight throw at 14.00 meters (45' 11.25”).
Senior
Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finished in sixth place in 8.69 seconds. Freshman
Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) was eighth out of 39 runners in the 200-meter dash (23.35) and senior
Darnell Owens (Fallsburg) was ninth of 42 in the 60-meter dash (7.20), missing the finals by one spot.
Sophomore
Ken Bucaro (Tully) was 10th in the pole vault (4.05 meters – 13' 3.5”), junior
Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed 11th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.96) and sophomore
Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished 12th in the 200-meter dash (23.69). In addition, freshman
Nate Francisco (Geneva/Marcus Whitman) finished 15th in the 400 meters (52.99) and freshman
Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) was 15th in the shot put (12.68 meters – 41' 7.25”).
