Schafer, Wignall Among Top Performers at Deneault Invitational

Nikki Schafer placed seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland women's indoor track and field athletes turned in eight top-10 finishes at the Marc Deneault Invitational, hosted by Cornell University. The meet featured more than 900 competitors representing 20 teams in the women's and men's meets combined.

Freshman Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. Her prelim time of 9.52 seconds in the hurdles is an ECAC Div. III Championship qualifier. She was clocked at 9.64 seconds in the finals. Her long jump covered 4.87 meters (15' 11.75”).

Sophomore Brenna Filipello (Delmar/Bethlehem) competed in the same two events as Schafer and placed ninth in both. She finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.95 seconds, missing the finals by one spot, and recorded a long jump of 4.79 meters (15' 8.75”).

Freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) registered Cortland's highest placement of the day with a third-place finish in the 400 meters (1:02.75). She also was 14th out of 36 runners in the 200-meter dash (28.15).

Junior Sarah Wignall (Weedsport) reached an ECAC qualifier with her sixth-place height of 3.20 meters (10' 6”) in the pole vault. Freshman Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) finished ninth at 3.05 meters (10' 0”) and senior Nicole Ragard (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) was 15th at 2.90 meters (9' 6.25”).

Freshman Britt Krivicich (Middletown/Pine Bush) placed seventh in the high jump by clearing 1.50 meters (4' 11”). Freshman Keri Marks (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) and freshman Nicole Battaglia (East Meadow) finished 10th (1:05.15) and 11th (1:05.72), respectively, in the 400 meters. In addition, freshman Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was 11th in the shot put at 10.60 meters (34' 9.5”), sophomore Valerie Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) placed 14th in the 800 meters (2:29.53) and sophomore Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) was 15th in the shot put at 10.25 meters (33' 7.5”).
