Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) set conference and school records in the pole vault and senior
Joe Keleher (Newfane) repeated as league champion in the 55-meter hurdles during Cortland's competition at the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Cortland finished second out of eight schools to snap a three-year streak of conference titles. Geneseo won with 157 points, followed by Cortland (95.17), Buffalo State (92), Oneonta (75), Brockport (72.83), Plattsburgh (56), Fredonia (51) and Oswego (25).
Pericozzi cleared 4.95 meters (16' 2.75”) to win the pole vault. The previous indoor SUNYAC and school record was 4.90 meters, which Pericozzi shared with former teammate
Jake Zanetti. The old meet record was 4.88 meters by Zanetti in 2008. Zanetti's performance improves on his NCAA provisional status. Keleher won the 55-meter hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 7.81 seconds.
Senior
Justin Wager (Guilderland) provisionally qualified for nationals with his second-place time of 4:12.66 in the mile. Freshman
Dash Ellis (Tomkins Cove/North Rockland) also reached provisional national qualifying status with his distance of 14.34 meters (47' 0.75”) in the triple jump. Ellis actually tied Geneseo's Wenley Louis for the top distance, but Louis was awarded first place based on his second-best jump (14.24 meters) compared to Ellis' second-best effort (14.15 meters). Junior
Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) also provisionally qualified for NCAA's in the triple jump with his third-place 14.18 meters (46' 6.25”).
Five Cortland pole vaulters finished in the top eight. In addition to Pericozzi, senior
Schuyler Field (Queensbury) finished third with an ECAC-qualifying 4.50 meters (14' 9”). Freshman
Dan Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and sophomore
Ken Bucaro (Tully) each cleared 4.35 meters (14' 3.25”), with Fugazot placing fifth and Bucaro seventh. Keleher tied for eighth place with a height of 4.20 meters (13' 9.25”).
Freshman
Eric Banks (Westbury) finished third in the 400 meters in 50.36 seconds and senior
Eric Stermer (Chenango Forks) was third in the 3,000-meter run in 8:40.30, both ECAC qualifying times. Also hitting ECAC marks were senior
Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) in the 55-meter hurdles with his prelim time of 7.96 seconds (he finished fourth in the finals in 8.01 seconds) and senior
Darnell Owens (Fallsburg) in the 55-meter dash with his prelim time of 6.61 seconds (he was sixth in the finals in 6.62 seconds).
