Red Dragon Pole Vaulter and Triple Jumpers Reach NCAA Qualifying Marks at SU Meet

Joe Keleher finished second in the 55-meter hurdles and seventh in the pole vault
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three Cortland athletes recorded NCAA Div. III qualifying performances at the Syracuse University Invitational. Freshman Dash Ellis (Tomkins Cove/North Rockland) and junior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) finished second and third, respectively, with NCAA provisional distances of 14.40 meters (47' 3”) and 14.20 meters (46' 7.25”). Sophomore Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) finished second in the pole vault at 4.70 meters (15' 5”), also an NCAA provisional mark but lower than he cleared earlier this season.

Five other Red Dragons posted ECAC qualifying efforts. Junior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished second in the 400 meters (50.11), with freshman Eric Banks (Westbury) in fourth (50.65). Senior Joe Keleher (Newfane) was second in the 55-meter hurdles (7.90), freshman Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) finished fifth in the triple jump at 13.69 meters (44' 11”) and senior Eric Stermer (Chenango Forks) placed seventh in the mile (4:20.20).

Other Cortland highlights included a victory by freshman Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in the shot put (13.27 meters – 43' 6.5”), a fourth-place time of 23.09 seconds by sophomore Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) in the 200-meter dash and a fifth-place finish by senior Durrell Reed (Syracuse/Corcoran) in the 55-meter hurdles (8.03).

Freshman Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.66 meters (41' 6.5”) and sophomore Mike McQuillan (New City/Clarkstown South) finished fifth in the shot put at 12.13 meters (39' 9.75”). Freshman Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished sixth (23.35) and seventh (23.56), respectively, in the 200-meter dash.

Keleher, in addition to his 55-meter hurdles effort, placed seventh in the pole vault by clearing 4.35 meters (14' 3.25”). Senior Schuyler Field (Queensbury) also recorded a height of 4.35 meters in the pole vault, but placed eighth due to number of misses. Sophomore Steve Manos (Elmira/Southside) finished ninth in the high jump (1.83 meters – 6' 0”) and freshman Matt Knott (Smithtown) was ninth in the 3,000 meters (8:52.52).
