MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Senior
Dan Evans (Hamburg) earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle during the first day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day meet is being hosted by Beloit College (Wis.) and the College of Wooster (Ohio) at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center.
Evans qualified for the consolation finals in the event with a preliminary time of 20.77 seconds – the 15th-best effort in a field of 48 swimmers. He was the seventh finisher in the evening's consolation heat in 20.88 seconds for his 15th-place overall showing.
Evans is Cortland's first male All-America swimmer since both Kevin Crossman and current assistant coach
Corey Ryon earned honorable mention recognition in 1998 – Crossman in both the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke and Ryon in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Evans is scheduled to compete in two more events this week – the 100-yard butterfly on Thursday and the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday.
