Dash Ellis finished first in the triple jump and was one of three Red Dragons to place in the top four of the event
NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – Freshman
Dash Ellis (Tomkins Cove/North Rockland) won the triple jump to help Cortland tie for 10th place at the ECAC Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Smith College. The Red Dragons finished with 29 points in a field of 49 schools that scored. Ithaca won with 52.25 points, followed by Southern Maine and The College of New Jersey tied for second with 48 points apiece.
Cortland took three of the top four spots in the triple jump, led by Ellis' winning distance of 14.54 meters (47' 8.5”). Junior
Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) finished second at 14.30 meters (46' 11”) and freshman
P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) was fourth at 14.03 meters (46' 0.5”). Ellis and Razzano each recorded NCAA provisional qualifying distances.
Four Red Dragon earned All-ECAC honors with top-eight finishes. In addition to the three triple jumpers, sophomore
Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) finished third in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 4.82 meters (15' 9.75”).
Three other Cortland competitors finished in the top 15 of their events. Senior
Schuyler Field (Queensbury) tied for 11th in the pole vault (4.52 meters – 14' 10”), freshman
Matt Knott (Smithtown) was 11th in the 5,000 meters (15:28.98) and senior
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished 14th in the 5,000 meters (15:46.04).
