Six Red Dragons Win at Cortland Classic

Lex Grable won the 400-meter dash and finished third in the 200 meters
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Six Red Dragons won events and four others place second to highlight Cortland's performances at its own Cortland Classic. The meet was held on Friday and Saturday in rainy and cold weather conditions at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.2 and sophomore Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) was the 200-meter dash champion in 27.2 seconds. Freshman Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) captured the shot put with a distance of 11.09 meters (36' 4.75”), freshman Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) won the triple jump at 10.27 meters (33' 8.25”) and freshman Jessica Andrianos (Camillus/West Genesee) won the discus with an effort of 38.60 meters (126' 8”). In addition, sophomore Jenna Evarts (West Islip) tied for first in the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds.

Freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was the runner-up in the 800 meters (2:23.9) and freshman Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.0). Sophomore Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) took second-place honors in the shot put at 10.62 meters (34' 10.25”) and freshman Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) was second in the triple jump at 10.17 meters (33' 4.5”). In addition, freshman Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) finished second in the pole vault at 3.06 meters (10' 0.5”).

Cortland's third-place finishers included sophomore Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) in the 100-meter dash (13.6), freshman Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) in the heptathlon (3,649 points) and senior Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the 400-meter dash (1:01.0). Grable finished third in the 200 meters (27.7), Gansle was third in the javelin (27.82 meters – 91' 3.25”) and Lachman placed third in the discus (35.38 meters – 116' 1”). Junior Sarah WIgnall (Weedsport) and senior Nicole Ragard (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) tied for third in the pole vault, each clearing 2.76 meters (9' 0.75”).
