Flynn Records NCAA Qualifying Triple Jump at Hamilton Invitational

P.J. Flynn's winning triple jump of 14.61 meters is an NCAA provisional qualifier
CLINTON, N.Y. – Freshman P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the triple jump and was one of three Cortland event winners at the Hamilton College Invitational.

Flynn's winning triple jump of 14.61 meters (47' 11.25”) was more than three meters farther than the second-place finisher in the 14-athlete field. Freshman Matt Knott (Smithtown) won the 5,000-meter run in 15:45.58 and freshman Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) was the shot put winner with a distance of 14.57 meters (47' 9.75”).

Freshman Dan Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) finished second in the pole vault (4.40 meters – 14' 5.25”). He tied for the best height, but finished second due to number of misses. Freshman Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed second in the javelin (45.32 meters – 148' 8”).

Torres, Wilson and freshman Nate Francisco (Geneva/Marcus Whitman) each turned in two top-10 finishes at the meet. Torres placed fourth in the discus at 39.99 meters (131' 2”) in addition to his winning shot put. Wilson was ninth in the shot put at 12.71 meters (41' 8.5”) to go along with his javelin runner-up finish. Francisco finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.31) and eighth in the 400-meter dash (51.52).

Freshman Bryan Rossi (Kings Park) was fourth in the long jump (6.17 meters – 20' 3”) and freshman Jake Gayle (Huntington Station/Huntington) finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.58). Freshman Kurt Soppe (Rochester/Irondequoit) was seventh in the long jump (5.98 meters – 19' 7.5”), junior Jacob Schwartz (White Sulfur Springs/Liberty) tied for ninth in the pole vault (3.80 meters – 12' 5.5”) and freshman Ameer Ellis (Farmingdale) placed 10th in the triple jump (11.38 meters – 37' 4”).
