Eric Banks ran the opening leg on Cortland's school record-setting 4x400-meter relay
ITHACA, N.Y. – The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Eric Banks (Westbury), sophomore Zak Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), junior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal) and junior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) broke a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships with its performance at the Cornell University Outdoor Invitational.

The relay finished first in 3:14.20, breaking the previous school record of 3:14.56 set by Bisceglia, Adam Groesbeck, J.J. Riese and Matt Bieringer in 2008.

Senior Darnell Owens (Fallsburg) won the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds, with freshman Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) placing third in 11.23 seconds. Owens and Karpinski also teamed with sophomore Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and freshman Dan Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) to place second in the 4x100-meter relay. Their time of 42.29 seconds missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard by less than four tenths of a second.

Freshman Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished second in the javelin at 48.20 meters (158' 2”), while his brother, junior Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy), was fourth in the event at 45.04 meters (147' 9”).

Seniors Joe Keleher (Newfane) and Schuyler Field (Queensbury) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Keleher cleared 4.65 meters (15' 3”) and Field got over the bar at 4.50 meters (14' 9”). Sophomore Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) finished fourth in the 800 meters in 1:53.33, only 0.33 seconds away from NCAA provisional qualifying.

Freshman Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed fourth in both the shot put (14.49 meters – 47' 6.5”) and the discus (40.19 meters – 131' 10”), in addition to a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw (36.90 meters – 121' 1”). Three Red Dragons turned in strong times in the 110-meter hurdles.
