CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland men's cross country team finished first out of four teams at the second annual Jack Daniels Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Saturday morning. Cortland claimed the top-eight individual spots and won with 15 points. Ithaca was second with 55 points, followed by Mohawk Valley Community College (85) and Oneonta (95).
Senior
Brendan Brethel (Lynbrook) took first place, completing the 6,000-meter course in 19:46.20. Three other Red Dragons broke the 20-minute barrier with senior
Andrew Brusso (Elmira/Southside) and junior
Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) tying for second (19:50.00) and sophomore
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) placing fourth.
Three freshmen and a junior rounded out the top eight for Cortland. Freshman
Casey Austin (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) finished fifth in 20:05.60, followed by junior
Jon Tuttle (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) in sixth at 20:06.60, freshman
Ryan Perry (Amherst/Williamsville North) in seventh at 20:09.60 and freshman
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) in eighth at 20:21.40.
Overall, the Red Dragons featured 15 of the top-25 finishers in the race.
