CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team advanced to the championship round of its own 12-team Red Dragon Classic with pool-play victories over Nazareth College and Buffalo State. Cortland defeated Nazareth in four sets, 25-20, 22-25, 25-11, 25-18, and swept Buffalo State, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
Cortland (4-0 overall) will play Fredonia in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by defending tournament champion Lebanon Valley and Rochester at noon in the other semifinals. The third-place match will be at 2 p.m. and the title match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope/Minisink Valley) led the Red Dragons versus Nazareth with 20 kills. Junior
Sheena Asibey (Brentwood) added 11 kills and sophomore
Kristen Guercio (Smithtown/Smithtown East) finished with 39 assists.

Kaitlyn Cooper (Webster/Webster Schroeder) posted a team-high five blocks versus the Golden Flyers. Guercio and sophomore
Katie Wick (Cortland/Homer) totaled 14 digs each and sophomore
Erin Carrino (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) added 11 digs.
Asibey paced Cortland in the second match with 11 kills and Coyle had 10 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Sophomore
Jenna Davies (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) had five kills and two aces and Guercio distributed 30 assists.
Cortland has won 15 of the previous 25 Red Dragon Classics, but has not captured the title since winning four in a row from 2003-06. The Red Dragons were fourth last year and second in 2008. Fredonia beat Cortland in last year's third-place match.
