Cortland Falls to Stevenson in First Round of Lycoming Kickoff Classic

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – Sophomore Ansger Otto (Willingboro, NJ) scored three goals to lead the Stevenson men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Cortland Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Lycoming Kickoff Classic. The Mustangs (2-0) advance to play Montclair St., a 1-0 winner versus Lycoming in the day's first game, in the title game, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Red Dragons (0-2) face the host school Sunday at 11 a.m.

Junior Brendan Wells (Wantagh/MacArthur) scored Cortland's goal in the second half. Sophomore goalie Niko Martinez-Reyes (Jamaica, NY/Holy Cross) made five saves in his first action as a Red Dragon.

Stevenson also picked up an "own goal" by Cortland in the first half. Goalie Ryan Flannelly made seven saves.

The Mustangs grabbed a 3-0 lead at the half as Otto sandwiched goals in the sixth and 23rd minutes around the "own goal" in the ninth minute. Wells put Cortland on the scoreboard in the 55th minute with a right-footed volley from the right side of the box after a scramble in front following a Cortland corner kick. Otto capped the scoring with his third of the game in the 87th minute.
