Seven Red Dragons Win Races in Dual Victory at Rochester

Judd Simon won the 200-yard individual medley and finished second in two other events
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seven Red Dragons won individual events as Cortland defeated Rochester, 171-127, in a dual meet at Rochester. Cortland upped its record to 4-2 on the season with the win.

Freshman Matt Distler (Glens Falls) won the 100-yard freestyle (48.94) and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.83), losing by just seven hundredths of a second. Junior Judd Simon (Oneida) finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.92) and second in two events, the 50-yard freestyle (22.52) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.38).

Junior Danny Salvatore (Clarence) was the 200-yard breaststroke winner (2:19.68) and the 100-yard breaststroke runner-up (1:03.16). Junior Travis Burke (Massapequa) won three-meter diving (299.45) and placed second behind sophomore teammate Kyle Kaznowski (Kingston) on the one-meter board. Kaznowski scored 276.30 points to Burke's 246.30 points in that event.

Sophomore Dan Maximowicz (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.05) and freshman Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) took top honors in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.51).

Cortland finished first in both relays. Freshman Nick Kiser (Apalachin/Vestal), freshman Andrew DellaVilla (Dansville), junior John Minnick (Latham/Shaker) and freshman Frank Steinbuch (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.50), while Distler, Maximowicz, sophomore Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) and freshman Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.94).

The Red Dragons also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Gregory MacDonald (Monroe Township, NJ/St. Joseph's), junior Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport), freshman Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) and Hanifin finished that race in 3:21.41.

Sophomore Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) placed second in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.32) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.66). Minnick was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.74), Scheemaker finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.98) and senior Dan Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.69).
