Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) each won two individual events as Cortland defeated host Oswego, 169-125, in dual-meet action.
Simon touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.46) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.05). Burke won both diving events, scoring 239.30 points on the three-meter board and 248.00 points on the one-meter board. McManus won the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.10) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.68).
Three other Red Dragons picked up individual victories. Sophomore
Dan Maximowicz (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) won the 50-yard freestyle (21.89), sophomore
Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) captured the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.72) and freshman
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.98). Strothenke also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.38).
The combination of freshman
Matt Distler (Glens Falls), Maximowicz, Simon and Strothenke won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:28.90. Strothenke, sophomore
Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal), Simon and freshman Gregory MacDonald (Monroe Township, NJ/St. Joseph's) placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.45).
Sophomore
Kyle Kaznowski (Kingston) finished second behind Burke in both three-meter (237.15 points) and one-meter (244.90 points) diving. Senior
Dan Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.14), MacQuarrie placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.97) and freshman
Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) was second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.55).
Other Cortland runner-up finishers included junior
