FREDONIA, N.Y. – Five different players scored goals as the Fredonia St. men's hockey team defeated Cortland, 6-2, Friday night in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons fell to 3-13-1 overall and 2-7 in the conference with the loss, while the Blue Devils improved to 9-9 and 4-5.

Sophomores Chris Kaleta (Hamburg/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and Mike Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) scored Cortland's goals. Senior Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats), juniors Joey Christiano (Rochester/Port Hope Predators) and Ryan Durocher (Canton/Boston Bulldogs) and sophomore Ronnie Beardsley (Burnt Hills/NY Apple Core) recorded one assist apiece. Junior Mike Reilly (New York/Bismarck Bobcats) started in goal and made 27 saves through the first two periods. Senior Dan Jewell (Medford/National Sports Academy) stopped nine shots in the third period.

Jordan Oye led Fredonia St. with a pair of goals, and Bryan Ross contributed one goal and two assists. Mat Hehr, Brad Nunn and Andrew Christ each scored a goal, and Steve Rizer chipped in with three assists for the Blue Devils. Goalie Jeff Holloway turned aside 19 shots.

Lysyj gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at three minutes, 42 seconds of the first period, but Fredonia St. closed the period with goals from Christ at 7:44 and Hehr on the power play at 8:43. Late in the opening period, the Red Dragons went on a five-minute power play but could not capitalize, and the Blue Devils extended their lead to 3-1 just three seconds after the major penalty expired on a goal from Oye.

Twenty-nine seconds after Oye's score, the Blue Devils received another five-minute major penalty, but Oye netted a short-handed score just 28 seconds into the penalty kill and Fredonia St. led 4-1. Kaleta made it a 4-2 game at 7:01 as Cortland netted a power-play goal. Nunn, however, pushed the lead back to three goals with a score at 17:21 with the man advantage. Ross completed the scoring with an even-strength goal at 16:25 of the third period.
