Two Triple Jumpers Provisionally Qualify for NCAAs at Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – Two Cortland triple jumpers reached NCAA provisional qualifying status and six other Red Dragons met ECAC standards in their events at the Cornell University Men's Track and Field Upstate Challenge. Cortland finished fifth in the team standings with 55 points, 10 behind University at Buffalo and 14 behind Syracuse University.

Senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) and freshman Aaron Green (Riverhead) each eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard in the triple jump. Razzano finished fourth at 14.40 meters (47' 3”) and Green was fifth at 14.38 meters (47' 2.25”). Sophomore Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) was an ECAC qualifier in the event with his eighth-place distance of 13.72 meters (45' 0.25”).

Senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) was an ECAC qualifier with his second-place time of 50.45 seconds in the 400-meter dash and junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) placed second in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC time of 22.83 seconds.

Two Cortland pole vaulters cleared ECAC-qualifying heights. Junior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) tied for second place at 4.65 meters (15' 3”) and sophomore Daniel Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) finished eighth at 4.50 meters (14' 9”). Cortland's other ECAC qualifier was freshman Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point), who finished eighth in the high jump. He was one of five athletes who tied for the fourth-best height of 1.94 meters (6' 4.25”), but placed eighth due to number of misses.

Bisceglia, sophomore Eric Banks (Westbury) and freshman Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) each finished in the top seven in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Bisceglia was fifth in the 200 meters (23.26) in addition to his runner-up showing in the 400. Banks placed fourth in the 200 meters (23.14) and fifth in the 400 meters (51.37), while Linton was sixth in the 200 meters (23.29) and seventh in the 400 meters (52.03).

Sophomore Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished third in the 800 meters (2:00.23). Junior Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) and junior Jon Tuttle (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Ward finished in 9:20.65 and Tuttle in 9:24.37.

Freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) turned in a sixth-place distance of 14.06 meters (46' 1.5”) in the weight throw. In the shot put, sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished sixth (13.97 meters – 45' 10”), followed by freshman Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) in seventh (13.31 meters – 43' 8”) and sophomore Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) in eighth (13.09 meters – 42' 11.5”).

Cortland will host a meet at Lusk Field House next Saturday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m.
