Three ECAC Qualifiers for Red Dragons at Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – Three Cortland athletes qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships with their performances at the Cornell University Women's Indoor Track and Field Upstate Challenge. The Red Dragons finished tied for fifth place with Ithaca in the final team standings with 24 points.

Graduate student Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters (5' 5”). The jump is easily an ECAC qualifier and just missed NCAA provisional status by one centimeter.

Junior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and sophomore Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) each turned in ECAC-qualifying times in the 3,000-meter run. Dalton finished fourth in 10:32.19 and Naylon was 11th in 10:43.57.

Three Red Dragons finished in the top seven in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was fourth (1:03.45), followed by junior Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) in fifth (1:04.30) and junior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) in seventh (1:05.48).

Sophomore Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished sixth in the shot put (34' 11”) and freshman Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) was sixth in the 800 meters (2:30.81). Freshman Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash in a field of 38 entrants with a preliminary time of 8.14 seconds, then placed ninth in the 16-sprinter finals in 8.12 seconds.

Cortland will host a meet at Lusk Field House next Saturday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m.
