Rachel Phillips won two breaststroke races and swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four swimmers won two individual events each to lead Cortland to a 168-132 victory over visiting Fredonia. The Red Dragons finish their dual-meet season with a 10-3 record and will now prepare for the SUNYAC Championships, which will be held in Buffalo Feb. 9-12.
Senior
Rachel Phillips (Eden) won both breaststroke races, clocking in at 1:09.75 in the 100-yard event and 2:33.49 in the 200-yard race. Freshman
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.36) and 400-yard individual medley (4:54.89), and sophomore
Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) was the winner in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.60) and 200-yard backstroke (2:15.14). Sophomore
Jessica Evans (Hamburg) was the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.23) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.36) winner.
Also winning races for Cortland were freshman
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) in the 100-yard freestyle (56.68) and sophomore
Kelsey Roe (Auburn) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.19).
Cortland took the top two spots in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore
Katherine Harris (Long Beach), Philliips, Hickey and Culmo won in 1:52.82, followed by Roe, freshman
Pam Rebholz (Northport), junior
Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) and freshman
M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) in 1:56.19.
Evans placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.65), junior
Laura Bohneberg (Lockport) was second in the 400-yard individual medley (5:02.35) and sophomore
Molly Miller (Eden) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.63). The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Evans, Culmo, Seeger and Dugue finished second in 1:42.11 and lost by only two hundredths of a second.
