Cortland Maintains SUNYAC Lead After 3-1 Victory at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Cortland scored three second-half goals to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and the Red Dragons defeated host Brockport, 3-1, for their sixth straight victory. Cortland remains in first place in the SUNYAC standings with a 6-1 league mark and is 9-4-1 overall. Brockport drops to 7-5-1 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Freshman Amanda Margolis (Oceanside) played a part in all three Cortland goals. She assisted the first two scores and scored an insurance goal on a 20-yard shot with 19 minutes remaining.

Senior Jackie De Luise (Schenectady/Guilderland) tied the game in the 53rd minute when she headed a ball over the goalie's head after a long cross by Margolis. Cortland grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute on a goal by junior Stacey Wood (New Hyde Park), also off a Margolis crossing pass.

Brockport took a 1-0 lead 12:44 into the contest on a Kaila Maguire goal, assisted by Maria Malone. The goal came off a scramble in front of the net after a free kick.

Cortland graduate student goalie Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) and Brockport netminder Erin Asquith each finished with six saves Cortland finished with a 13-12 edge in shots, although Brockport earned three corner kicks to Cortland's one.

With the win, eighth-year head coach Heidi Woodcock moves into second place on Cortland's women's soccer victory list with her 83rd win, one ahead of Janine Corning. Chris Malone is the program leader with 195 wins from 1982-94.

Cortland will travel to Geneseo Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
