DANBURY, CONN. – Graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) completed 14-of-21 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score, all in the first half, as Cortland romped past Western Connecticut State, 56-10, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest.

Cortland (4-2 overall and NJAC) scored 35 points in the second quarter and led 43-3 at halftime. The Red Dragons finished with 605 yards of total offense – its highest output since gaining 614 yards against The College of New Jersey in a home overtime loss in September 2002.

Junior Mike Humphrey (Le Roy) caught seven passes for 145 yards and a touchdown and sophomore John Babin (Warwick Valley) finished with five catches for 96 yards and a score. Freshman Kordel McInnis (Washington Township, NJ) also caught a TD pass.

Senior Dorian Myles (Lackawanna/Hamburg) rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Freshman Daniel Olivier (Freeport) gained 70 yards on 13 carries and scored his first collegiate touchdown, while freshman Bronson Greene (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had 15 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Chris Rose (Victor) completed 8-of-10 passes for 75 yards in the second half as Cortland finished with 345 yards passing and 260 yards on the ground.

Junior linebacker Chris Bright (East Meadow) and senior defensive end Connor Tompkins (Ossining/Sleepy Hollow) each recorded eight tackles, two for losses. Bright also intercepted a pass. Freshman linebacker Jesse Scanna (Holbrook/Sachem North) totaled 3.5 tackles for losses, including two sacks, and sophomore defensive end Joe Kirchner (Holbrook/Sachem North) registered three tackles for losses, also with two sacks. Scanna and Kirchner each finished with seven tackles. Cortland limited the Colonials to 143 yards of total offense.

For Western Connecticut, Devin Myers led the team with nine tackles and a pass breakup and Tom Lacey made seven tackles and blocked a punt. Curtis Walker caught a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from backup quarterback Ryan Falaguerra.

Cortland took an 8-0 lead on the game's first drive when Pitcher connected with Humphrey on a 53-yard touchdown pass. Humphrey, also Cortland's holder on point-after kicks, ran for the two-point conversion.

Late in the first quarter, Western Connecticut drove from its own 41-yard line to the Cortland 2-yard line. The Red Dragon defense tightened, however, on three straight plays and the Colonials had to settle for a Brian Kelly 20-yard field goal to draw within 8-3.

Cortland's 35-point outburst in the second quarter consisted of two Greene 1-yard TD runs, sandwiched around a McInnis 10-yard scoring catch; a 34-yard TD catch by Babin; and a Pitcher 4-yard run with 35 seconds left in the half.

Myles scored on a 13-yard run early in the third quarter to put Cortland up 49-3 and Olivier found paydirt from one yard out with 8:01 left in the game to finish the Red Dragon scoring. Walker caught his touchdown pass with 4:54 remaining.

Cortland returns home to host William Paterson University on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. Western Connecticut State will host Brockport Saturday at noon.
