ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) finished in second place and seven Cortland runners placed in the top 12 in the 5,000-meter race at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Run. There was no team scoring at the event.
Iacovelli finished in 17:04.3 on the soggy and wet course and was the top collegiate runner. Tyler Murtha, an unattached entry, won the race in 17:01.9. Sophomore
Brian Hotchkiss (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) placed fourth in 17:10.6, sophomore
Kyle Martin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) was sixth in 17:23.8 and freshman
Jared Walther (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) crossed the line seventh in 17:26.7.
Freshman
Tim Odin (Northport) turned in a 10th-place time of 17:38.0, followed by sophomore
Ryan Perry (Buffalo/Williamsville North) in 11th (17:49.2) and freshman
Dominic Simeone (Delmar/Bethlehem) in 12th (17:56.7). A total of 46 runners competed, including current Cortland assistant coach and former runner Josh Henry, who finished ninth (17:37.5) as an unattached entry.
Cortland will compete next Saturday, October 29, at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
