NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior
Travis Burke (Massapequa) finished first and second in two diving events and junior
Matt Blaszak (West Seneca/West Seneca East) turned in two top-five individual finishes as Cortland opened the season at the three-team NYU Invitational Men's Swimming and Diving Fall Invitational.
Stevens Institute of Technology finished first in the team scoring with 1,069 points, followed by NYU with 759.5 and Cortland with 420.5.
Burke posted a score of 300.30 points to win three-meter diving and scored 274.88 points for a second-place showing on the one-meter board. Blaszak finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.58) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.15).
Junior
Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.44). Junior
Dan Maximowicz (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.41) and junior
Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) finished fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.08).
