Power-Play Goals Doom Cortland in 6-0 Loss to #2 Oswego

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally second-ranked Oswego men's hockey team scored five power-play goals in defeating Cortland, 6-0, Friday night at Alumni Arena in the SUNYAC opener for both schools. The Red Dragons fell to 0-1 overall with the loss, while the Lakers improved to 3-0 and 1-0.

Junior Brittan Kuhlman (Elkhorn, NE/Winnipeg Saints) made 34 saves for the Red Dragons, and junior Andrew Hare (Burlington, ON/Niagara University) earned the shutout for Oswego with 19 stops.

Junior Paul Rodrigues (Etibicoke, ON/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) paced the Lakers' offense with two goals and once assist. Junior Chris Brown (Centreville, ON/Wellington Dukes) scored twice, senior Ian Boots (Akwesasne/Ohio St.) recorded a goal and two assists and junior Luke Moodie (Burlington, ON/Oakville Blades) netted a goal. Junior Jon Whitelaw (Huntsville, ON/Huntsville Otters) collected three assists, and senior Andrew Mather (Nepean, ON/Nepean Raiders) and junior Zack Josepher (Wantagh/Michigan St.) recorded two assists.

After a scoreless first period, the Lakers broke the game open with five goals in the second period, four with the man advantage. Rodrigues picked up a pair of power-play goals and assisted on another, while Boots scored an even-strength goal on a breakaway and assisted on Brown's power-play goal. Moodie also registered a power-play goal in the period. Brown finished off the scoring with Cortland down a man with just over five minutes remaining in regulation for the final of 6-0.
