Alyson Dalton has finished second twice and fifth once over the last three years at the SUNYAC Championships
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Senior
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and freshman
Bori Tozser (Homer) each earned first-team all-league honors with top-seven finishes at the 2011 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Cross Country Championships. The meet was hosted by SUNY New Paltz at Bowdoin Park.
Geneseo won the league title with 36 points, followed by Plattsburgh with 53 points. Cortland finished in third place with 85 points, three ahead of fourth-place Oneonta. Rounding out the field were New Paltz (134), Brockport (191), Fredonia (200), Oswego (233), Buffalo St. (248) and Potsdam (318).
Dalton finished in second place for the second straight year. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:49.46, about 10 seconds behind individual champion Stefanie Braun of Plattsburgh. Dalton is a three-time first-team all-league runner – an honor that goes to the top seven runners. She finished fifth as a sophomore in 2009 in addition to her two runner-up showings.
Tozser earned her first-team all-league spot with a seventh-place time of 23:04.06 in the field of 122 runners.
Sophomore
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) received second-team All-SUNYAC honors with a 13th-place time of 23:34.77. Places 8-15 are second-team all-league.
Rounding out Cortland's top seven were junior
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) in 33rd place (24:34.47), sophomore
Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) in 39th place (24:46.36), senior
Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in 40th place (24:47.19), sophomore
Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) in 43rd place (25:01.41) and sophomore
Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) in 49th place (25:27.92).
Cortland is idle next weekend and will compete at the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Canton, N.Y. at 12 p.m.
