Amanda Margolis action

Margolis Scores Three in 3-0 Win vs. Fredonia St.

Freshman Amanda Margolis finished off her hat trick with goals just over three minutes apart in the second half
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Amanda Margolis (Oceanside) scored three goals to lead the Cortland women's soccer team to a 3-0 win versus Fredonia St. Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at Jets Field. The Red Dragons won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 8-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Blue Devils fell to 6-6 and 3-2.

Senior Jackie De Luise (Schenectady/Guilderland) recorded two assists and senior Jennifer Cadolino (Massapequa) added an assist for Cortland. Graduate student Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) made two saves in goal, playing 81 minutes, 22 seconds, before giving way to sophomore Dani Reygers (Cortland/Homer), who did not face a shot on goal over the final 8:38.

Sophomore goalie Kayleigh Forger (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) registered 10 saves for Fredonia St.

Margolis netted her first goal just 1:46 into the game. After Cadolino had a shot blocked, she chipped the rebound to Margolis deep on the right side of the box. Margolis settled the ball with her chest and tucked a sharp-angled shot between Forger and the right post. The Blue Devils' best chance in the first half came in the 22nd minute, but sophomore Maria Green's (Albany/South Colonie) one-time 30-yard shot off a loose ball sailed over the cross bar. In the 34th minute, Forger kept it a 1-0 game when she charged off her line to stuff an open chance by De Luise.

De Luise had another bid in the opening minute of the second half all alone in front, but Forger again denied the chance by coming off her line to block the shot. In the 54th minute, the Blue Devils nearly scored the equalizer as senior Reilly Condidorio (LeRoy) deflected a pass deep in the box that Monnier was able to smother.

De Luise and Margolis then connected for two goals just over three minutes apart to seal the win. In the 66th minute, De Luise sent a cross from the right side inside the six-yard box where Margolis was able to one-time a shot past Forger. In the 69th minute, De Luise served a pass from the left side that Margolis one-touched into the goal to complete the hat trick. Cortland had one last opportunity to add to its score, but sophomore Matison Williams (Washingtonville) sent a penalty kick over the cross bar with 1:13 remaining.
