BUFFALO, N.Y. – Nine Cortland swimmers won individual events as the Red Dragons defeated host Buffalo State, 133-87, in dual-meet action. Cortland improves to 1-2 with the win.
Senior
Judd Simon (Oneida) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.24) and was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.17), while junior
Matt Blaszak (West Seneca/West Seneca East) captured the 100-yard freestyle (50.13) and was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.59).
Sophomore
Matt Distler (Glens Falls) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.54) and was the 200-yard backstroke runner-up (2:11.64). Senior
Danny Salvatore (Clarence) finised first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.00) as an exhibition entry and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.45).
Freshman
Alex Spatzer (Kenmore/Kenmore West) took top honors in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.61), freshman
Matt Mullen (North Babylon) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.83) and sophomore
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.23). Senior
Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport) was the 500-yard freestyle winner (5:21.50) and senior
Dan Drew (Farmington/Victor) captured the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.41).
Junior

Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal) and Strothenke won the 400-yard medley relay (3:46.89), while Simon, sophomore Gregory MacDonald (Monroe Township, NJ/St. Joseph's), junior
Greg Griffin (Dallas, TX/J.F. Kimball) and senior
John Minnick (Latham/Shaker) finished first as an exhibition entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:25.53). Strickland also was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (23.01) and 100-yard freestyle (50.97).
Cortland is off until a Dec. 10 meet at Oneonta at 1 p.m.
