WINNECONNE, WIS.- Cortland finished in 20th place out of 32 schools at the NCAA Div. III Men's Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.
The Red Dragons posted a score of 459 points, two ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan and 18 behind NYU. North Central College of Illinois won the team title with 110 points, followed by Haverford (172), Washington University (Mo.) (206) and SUNY Geneseo (235) in the top four.
Cortland has finished in the top 20 nationally 13 times, including an NCAA title in 2008, third-place finish in 2007 and fourth-place showing in 2006.
Junior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 54th in a field of 279 runners in 24:58.06 over 8,000 meters. Freshman
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) placed 62nd in 25:00.86.
Sophomore
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) crossed the finish line 156th in 25:38.23, junior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) placed 168th (25:42.87) and freshman
Mike Ramos (Middletown/Pine Bush) was 172nd (25:44.06). Rounding out Cortland's contingent were sophomore
Brian Hotchkiss (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) in 227th place (26:05.42) and junior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) in 261st place (26:43.20).
Ben Sathre of St. Thomas (Minn.) won the individual title in 23:44.27, followed by three-time SUNYAC champion Lee Berube of Geneseo in 23:49.60. The top 35 finishers earn All-America honors.
