Cortland Wins 64-43 at Brockport on Record-Setting Day

Dan Pitcher tied a school single-game record with his five TD passes and is now Cortland's record holder for TD passes in a season (26) and career (49)
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Cortland graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) passed for five touchdowns and rushed for two scores as the Red Dragons completed their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) schedule with a 64-43 victory at Brockport.

The combined 107 points are the most ever in a Cortland football game, eclipsing the mark of 98 points set in Cortland's 56-42 win at Brockport in 2009. Cortland improves to 7-2, both overall and in the NJAC, with the win. Brockport is 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the league. Cortland was eliminated from the NJAC title race as both Montclair St. and Kean won. Those two teams are each 7-1 with one week remaining and play each other next Saturday.

Pitcher completed 18-of-23 passes for 221 yards. His five touchdown passes ties a school single-game record set previously three times, most recently by current assistant coach Alex Smith versus Kean in 2004. Pitcher has also established new school records for touchdown passes in a season and a career. His 26 TD passes this fall breaks the mark of 23 set by Ray Miles in 2008, while his 49 career TD tosses is one better than Smith's 48 from 2004-07 and 2009.

In addition, Pitcher has now thrown at least one TD pass in 11 straight games, tying his own school record. Pitcher has a TD pass in 22 of his 23 games as Cortland's starting quarterback, dating back to 2009. His first 11-game streak ended in last year's home win versus Ithaca. His new streak includes two NCAA playoff games last season and all nine games this fall.

Smith registered one of Cortland's four interceptions in the game along with junior cornerback Pete Furey (Niskayuna), junior defensive lineman Vaughn Labor (Norwich) and senior cornerback D.J. Romano (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy). Furey returned his interception 28 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
