LANCASTER, PA. - Three different players scored goals as the 12th-ranked Franklin & Marshall field hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament. The Diplomats improved to 17-3 with the win and advance to face Middlebury College in a second-round game, Saturday, 1 p.m., at Skidmore College. The Red Dragons' finished the season at 12-7.

Emily von Schondorf (Webster/Webster Thomas) started in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal in 15 minutes, 54 seconds, before giving way to freshman
Rachel Moccaldi (Clinton), who stopped five shots and surrendered two goals in 54:06.
Seniors Allison McLaren (Jenkintown, PA/Mount Saint Joseph Academy) and Becky Willert (North East, MD/Rising Sun) and junior Steph McDonald (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) tallied the goals for Franklin & Marshall with junior Maura Hennigan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) recording an assist. McLaren also collected a defensive save, and sophomore goalie Avery Koep (Madison, NJ) earned the shutout with one save.
The Diplomats took a 1-0 lead 7:28 into the game when Hennigan set up McDonald's score off a penalty corner. Less than eight minutes into the second half, Willert made it a 2-0 game, scoring on a reverse-stick shot from the center of the circle that found the lower right corner. McLaren completed the scoring at the 61:12 mark, knocking in a rebound in front.
The Diplomats out shot the Red Dragons, 16-8, but Cortland held an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners.
