Cortland Men Nipped at Oneonta, 122-121

Judd Simon won the 100-yard freestyle and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Oneonta barely edged Cortland for second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the meet's final event, and the hosts held on for a 122-121 dual-meet victory over the visiting Red Dragons.

Oneonta entered the relay leading 118-108, leaving Cortland a chance to win the meet if it could earn both the 11 points for first place and four points for second place (third place in a relay earns two points). Cortland won the race in an Oneonta pool record time of 1:30.90 behind senior Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport), junior Greg Griffin (Dallas, TX/J.F. Kimball), sophomore Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) and sophomore Matt Latorre (Bethlehem). Cortland almost pulled out the team victory, but its other relay unit finished just 11 hundredths of a second behind Oneonta's top entry.
