Cortland Women Wrap First Semester With 128-115 Win at Oneonta

Michelle Seeger won the 50-yard freestyle and swam the butterfly leg on Cortland's 200-yard medley relay that set a pool record
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Freshman Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) won two individual events and led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay that clinched Cortland's team victory as the Red Dragons defeated host Oneonta, 128-115, in dual-meet action. Cortland improved to 3-1 on the season.

Cortland led 115-111 entering the final relay and needed a victory or Oneonta would win the meet. The combination of Caputo, sophomore M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks), junior Kelsey Roe (Auburn) and junior Jessica Evans (Hamburg) easily won the race in 1:44.33 – a new Oneonta pool record and more than four seconds ahead of Oneonta's relay team.

Earlier in the day, Caputo won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:04.58) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.52). her 1,000-yard freestyle time is a new pool record. Evans won the 100-yard freestyle (56.36), while senior Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) won the 50-yard freestyle (26.20) and finished second behind Evans in the 100-yard freestyle (56.65).

Sophomore Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.73) and second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.08). Junior Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.19) and was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.84).

Cortland also set a pool record in the opening 200-yard medley relay as MacDonald, Hickey, Seeger and Evans were clocked in 1:53.72. In addition, senior Sara Wynne (Wantagh) finished second in both one-meter diving (184.60 pts.) and three-meter diving (144.70 pts.) and freshman Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.24).
