Pericozzi Wins Pole Vault at Cornell Relays

Tim Scheftic turned in top-10 finishes in the long jump and triple jump
ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) won the pole vault and was one of Cortland's five ECAC Div. III championship qualifiers as the Red Dragons competed at the season-opening Cornell University Relays.

Pericozzi's winning height was 4.80 meters (15' 9”). Last season, that would have been an NCAA provisional qualifier. This year, however, there are no NCAA automatic or provisional standards. Instead, this year's men's nationals will feature the top 13 declared performances in each event. Pericozzi's 4.80 meters matches the 13th qualifying height from last season.

Junior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed fifth in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 15.02 meters (49' 3.5”) and freshman Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished sixth in the 5,000 meters with an ECAC time of 15:19.42. Two long jumpers also hit ECAC marks as sophomore Tim Scheftic (Dryden) and junior Josh Daves (Huntington) tied for ninth place at 6.77 meters (22' 2.5”).

Three Red Dragons earned top-seven finishes in the 300-meter dash. Sophomore Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) placed third (35.47), junior Eric Banks (Westbury) was fifth (35.54) and senior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) finished seventh (36.02).

Sophomore Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished sixth in the weight throw (15.19 meters – 49' 10”) and Scheftic was seventh in the triple jump (13.43 meters – 44' 0.75”). Junior Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished seventh in the 5,000 meters (15:24.34), freshman Nick Avossa (Kingston) was eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.89) and senior Ken Bucaro (Tully) cleared 4.50 meters (14' 9”) to finish eighth in the pole vault.

Sophomore Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 10th in the shot put (13.62 meters – 44' 8.25”) and sophomore Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) tied for 10th place in the high jump (1.86 meters – 6' 1.25”).

In relay action, the distance medley relay of freshman Jared Walther (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse), freshman Cameron Rodgers (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), sophomore Mike Kelly (Coram/Longwood) and freshman Ethan Quanci (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) finished second in 11:17.09. The 4x400-meter relay team of Farnham-Haskell, senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), junior Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) and Banks placed fourth in 3:27.01.
