Red Dragons Post Eight ECAC Qualifying Performances at Cornell Relays

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team posted eight ECAC Div. III championship qualifying performances as it opened the season at the Cornell University Relays.

Senior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 10:06.88. Sophomore Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) met ECAC standards in two events – she placed sixth in the 60-meter dash (8.00) and ninth in the long jump (5.25 meters – 17' 2.75”).

Sophomore Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) finished eighth in the 500-meter dash (1:21.23) and junior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) was ninth in the triple jump (10.88 meters – 35' 8.5”).

Cortland's other ECAC performances came in relays. The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy), junior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush), senior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) and Reilly finished fifth in 4:07.68. In the 4x800-meter relay, Reilly, junior Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy), freshman Jessie Zdrowak (Orchard Park) and junior Kelsie Foster (Elmira/Notre Dame) placed seventh (10:02.92), while junior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport), freshman Jenna Fallon (Waterville), freshman Bori Tozser (Homer) and freshman Jessie Hughes (Pawling) finished eighth (10:03.65).

Freshman Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) recorded a pair of top-eight finishes. She finished sixth in the shot put (10.67 meters – 35' 0.25”) and eighth in the weight throw (11.64 meters – 38' 2.25”). Sophomore Kelly Hugo (Highland) and junior Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault. They both cleared 3.15 meters (10' 4”), with their places determined by number of misses.

Junior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) scored 2,853 points to finish seventh in the pentathlon. Sophomore Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) placed ninth in the 3,000 meters (10:53.93).
