Kristin Vespa (Ossining) and sophomore
Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) each turned in ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying performances and sophomore
Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) narrowly missed qualifying for nationals in the pentathlon during Cortland's appearance at the Cornell University Kane Invitational.
Vespa finished seventh out of 28 runners in the 5,000 meters in 18:41.32, while Stephens placed ninth out of 31 entrants in the triple jump at 10.80 meters (35' 5.25”). Schafer finished second of 12 in the pentathlon with 2,964 points, 36 points shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Among her events was an ECAC-qualifying time of 9.46 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
Two other Red Dragons placed in the top six in the pentathlon – sophomore
Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) finished fourth with 2,817 points and junior
Brenna Filipello (Selkirk/Bethlehem) was sixth with 2,662 points.
Freshman
Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) finished third out of 19 sprinters in the 500-meter dash (1:23.65). Freshman
Bianca Benavides (Coram/Longwood) was 11th of 51 in the 60-meter dash (8.27), with junior
Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) in 18th (8.41).
Sophomore
Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) placed 15th out of 42 competitors in the shot put (9.97 meters, 32' 8.5”). Freshman
Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) was 18th in the 3,000 meters (11:11.29) and junior Natash Roseboom (Milford) finished 18th in the weight throw (11.59 meters, 38' 0.25”).
