Three Red Dragons Hit ECAC Marks at Deneault Invitational

Zac Karpinski finished fifth in the 200-meter dash and narrowly missed qualifying for the 60-meter dash finals
ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Stephan Linton (Roosevelt), junior Ken Bucaro (Tully) and freshman Cody Amengual (West Babylon) each qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships with their performances at the Cornell University Men's Indoor Track and Field Deneault Invitational.

Linton finished second out of 29 entrants in the 200-meter dash in 22.98 seconds. Bucaro cleared 4.50 meters (14' 9”) to place sixth in the pole vault, and Amengual placed seventh in a field of 40 in the 800 meters in 1:55.81.

Sophomore Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.26 seconds. He also missed qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash by one spot – he was ninth out of 39 sprinters in 7.18 seconds.

Senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal) finished fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:09.58) and senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) was fifth in the 300-meter dash (35.83).

Sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) led a group of three Red Dragons who placed in the top half of the field in the shot put. He finished sixth out of 29 competitors at 13.95 meters (45' 9.25”). Sophomore Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished seventh (13.63 meters – 44' 8.75”) and freshman Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) was 13th (13.06 meters – 42' 10.25”). In the weight throw, freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished seventh at 14.59 meters (47' 10.5”), followed by Wilson in 10th (13.01 meters – 42' 8.25”) and Torres in 11th (12.88 meters – 42' 3.25”).

Freshman Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) finished sixth in the high jump. He was part of a four-way tie for fourth place at 1.89 meters (6' 2.25”), but was officially sixth due to number of misses. Freshman Kyle Martin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) placed ninth in the mile run (4:34.04), freshman Paul Cuthbert (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) was 10th in the pole vault (4.35 meters – 14' 3.25”), sophomore P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) finished 11th in the triple jump (13.25 meters – 43' 5.75”) and junior Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) was 14th in the 200-meter dash (23.75).

Cortland also finished third in the 4x800-meter relay (8:29.71) and sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.73). The combination of sophomore Pat Fannon (West Islip), freshman Ryan Perry (Amherst/Williamsville North), sophomore Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) and freshman Dylan Coppola (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) comprised the 4x800 team, while freshman Ryan Ainsworth (Bath/Bath Haverling), junior Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville), Amengual and Wiltshire ran the 4x400.
