Pericozzi and Green Win Titles at SUNYAC Men's Indoor Championships; Red Dragons Third in Team Standings

Ryan Pericozzi won the SUNYAC pole vault title for a second straight year
GENEVA, N.Y. – Cortland junior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) and freshman Aaron Green (Riverhead) each captured league titles at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Cortland finished third at the eight-team meet with 110.67 points. Buffalo State claimed the team title with 136 points, just one point ahead of Geneseo. Following Cortland in the standings were Fredonia (83), Brockport (62.33), Plattsburgh (41), Oneonta (32) and Oswego (22). The meet was held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Pericozzi repeated as league champion in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 4.85 meters (15' 11”). Green also registered an NCAA provisional qualifying performance with his winning distance of 14.50 meters (47' 7”) in the triple jump.

Cortland took five of the eight scoring spots in the triple jump. In addition to Green's victory, freshman Kenny Sinclair (Rochester/James Monroe) finished third (14.03 meters – 46' 0.5”), senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) was fourth (13.96 meters – 45' 9.75”), sophomore Mike Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) placed sixth (13.85 meters – 45' 5.25”) and sophomore P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) was seventh (13.74 meters – 45' 1”), all with ECAC-qualifying efforts.

Senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished second in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 49.80 seconds. He also led off the second-place 4x400-meter relay team (ECAC-qualifying 3:25.20) that also featured senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), sophomore Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) and sophomore Eric Banks (Westbury).

Junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) finished third in the 400-meter dash (50.12) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.63), both with ECAC-qualifying times. Freshman Cody Amengual (West Babylon) finished third in the 800 meters with an ECAC time of 1:55.72, and the distance medley relay unit of Amengual, junior Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley), freshman Michael Kelly (Coram/Longwood) and sophomore Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished third in 10:38.94.

Freshman Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) placed fourth in the high jump at 1.92 meters (6' 3.5”), Banks was fifth in the 400-meter dash (50.78) and junior Kyle Fitzpatrick (Washingtonville) finished fifth in the 800 meters (ECAC-qualifying 1:56.34).

Four Red Dragons scored in the long jump, two with ECAC standards. Freshman Tim Scheftic (Dryden) finished fifth at 6.72 meters (22' 0.75”) and sophomore Josh Daves (Huntington) was sixth at 6.70 meters (21' 11.75”). Junior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) finished seventh (6.61 meters – 21' 8.25”) and Razzano finished eighth (6.53 meters – 21' 5.25”).

Cortland also placed four in the top eight in the pole vault. Along with Pericozzi's victory, freshman Paul Cuthbert (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) finished sixth (4.25 meters – 13' 11.25”), while sophomore Robert Brower (Massapequa) and senior Schuyler Field (Queensbury) were part of a three-way tie for eighth (4.10 meters – 13' 5.25”).

Sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished sixth in the shot put at 14.69 meters (48' 2.5”), an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished seventh in the weight throw at 14.45 meters (47' 5”) and freshman Kyle Martin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) was seventh in the 3,000 meters (9:01.99).

Other Red Dragon scorers included the following eighth-place finishers: sophomore Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) in the 55-meter dash (6.68, 6.64 in prelims), sophomore Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) in the shot put (ECAC-qualifying 14.50 meters – 47' 7”) and Fannon in the mile run (4:25.54).
