Kristen Serikstad Reaches NCAA High Jump Standard at Army Meet

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cortland graduate student Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the high jump as the Red Dragons opened their women's outdoor track and field season at Army's Dick Shea Open.

Serikstad finished second out of 19 competitors with a height of 1.68 meters (5' 6.25”). She actually was tied for the best height at the meet, but finished second due to number of misses.

The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough), junior Jenna Evarts (West Islip), junior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) and freshman Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) finished first with a time of 51.15 seconds. They missed qualifying for the ECAC Div. III Championships by only 15 hundredths of a second.

Two of Cortland's 4x400-meter relay teams finished in the top four. The quartet of freshman Trisha Clark (Pulaski), Montrose, Evarts and sophomore Lex Grable (Pine Bush) placed second in 4:21.68, while Bonnell, junior Abby Vander Veen (Delanson/Faith Bible Academy), junior Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) and junior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished fourth in 4:28.55.

In the heptathlon, sophomore Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished fourth with 3,734 points and junior Brenna Filipello (Selkirk/Bethlehem) was fifth with 3,054 points. During the heptathlon, both Schafer and sophomore Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) qualified for the ECACs in the 100-meter hurdles, each with a time of 15.94 seconds.

The Red Dragons grabbed four of the top seven spots in the 21-runner 5,000-meter run field, led by sophomore Jordan Naylon's (Fairport) fourth-place effort (18:58.07). Freshman Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) finished fifth (19:01.36), freshman Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) was sixth (19:01.77) and senior Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira/Thomas A. Edison) placed seventh (19:02.54).

In the 400-meter hurdles, Henry finished fourth out of 15 competitors with a time of 1:11.04. Triantafillou was seventh (1:13.10) and Basciano finished eighth (1:13.25). Freshman Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) finished seventh out of 30 runners in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.51. Clark placed 10th (1:03.76) and Vander Veen was 14th (1:04.37).

In the 100-meter dash, Sahm finished eighth (13.30) and freshman Tara Kickel (West Islip) placed 12th (13.46). Five Red Dragons finished in the top half of the field in the 200-meter dash. Bonnell placed 10th out of 35 competitors in 27.42 seconds. Vander Veen was 11th (27.50), Evarts finished 13th (27.62), Montrose was 14th (27.64) and Clark finished 16th (27.81).
