NEW YORK, N.Y. – Three Cortland athletes registered NCAA provisional qualifying performances as the Red Dragons tied for 13th place at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was held Friday and Saturday at the New York City Armory.
Cortland finished with 21 points. The College of New Jersey won the team title with 58 points, followed by Tufts with 53.5 points. A total of 47 schools scored at the meet.
Freshman
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) finished fourth in the 55-meter dash in 7.34 seconds. Her prelim time of 7.28 seconds is an NCAA provisional qualifier, but not her fastest time this season. Sophomore
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) turned in an NCAA provisional time of 5:03.21 to place sixth in the mile and junior
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) was seventh in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA time of 17:23.85.
Graduate student
Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) finished third in the high jump. She cleared 1.63 meters (5' 4.25”) before missing three times at the NCAA provisional and eventual winning height of 1.68 meters. Sophomore
Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) placed fourth in the pentathlon with 2,998 points. Her best finishes in individual events during the pentathlon were second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.84) and third in the high jump (1.53 meters – 5' 0.25”).
Other Red Dragons in the top 15 in their events included Bonnell with a 13th-place long jump (5.02 meters – 16' 5.75”), senior
Kristin Vespa (Ossining) with a 15th-place showing in the 5,000 meters (18:18.00), and a 13th-place finish by the 4x400-meter relay team of junior
Jenna Evarts (West Islip), junior
Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland), freshman
Trisha Clark (Pulaski) and sophomore Lex Grable (Pine Bush) in 4:03.36.
