Red Dragons Win Five Events at Ithaca Invitational

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Graduate student Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) leaped an ECAC-qualifying jump of 1.58 meters (5' 2.25”) giving her the first place in the high jump on Tuesday at the Ithaca College Invitational, held on the campus of SUNY Cortland.

Freshman Alex Budd (Riverhead) finished right behind Serikstad in second place for the high jump missing the ECAC mark by 0.05 meters with her jump of 1.53 meters (5' 0.25”). Sophomore Michelle Thomas (Greenville) helped the women sweep the top three spots in the event with a third place jump of 1.48 meters (4' 10.25”).

Three Red Dragons took the top four positions in the 400-meter hurdles with sophomore Liz Henry (Massapequa) in first place (1:08.12). Junior Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) finished third with a time of 1:08.65 and sophomore Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) finished fourth clocking in at 1:09.61.

Junior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) finished first out of 12 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.29. Junior Jenna Evarts (West Islip) was second at 1:01.38 and sophomore Keri Marks (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished third at 1:04.48.

On the field, sophomore Karli Johnson (Mount Sinai) finished in second place for the discus throw with her mark of 36.11 meters (118' 6”), missing the ECAC mark by only 0.14 meters. Sophomore Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished in the top three in two events for the day. Lachman won the shot put with a throw of 10.99 meters (36' 0.75”) and also finished third in the discus throw with a mark of 35.39 meters (116' 1”).

Freshman Jackie Hoffman (Lancaster) took first place out of 15 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.45 seconds. Freshman Cassandra Viola (Orangeburg/Tappen Zee) finished third in the event coming in at 29.34 seconds.

Other top performances included sophomore Natasha Roseboom (Milford/Milford Central) finishing second in the hammer throw with her throw of 37.23 meters (122' 2”), sophomore Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) jumping 4.82 meters (15' 9”) in the long jump to take third place, and junior Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) taking the highest place for the Red Dragons in the javelin throw at fifth place (29.19 meters – 95' 9”).
