Ken Bucaro won the pole vault at 4.35 meters
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) won the 200-meter dash, finished second in the 100-meter dash and anchored an ECAC-qualifying 4x100-meter relay team as Cortland competed at the West Point Open.

Karpinski bested 19 other sprinters in the 200 meters with a time of 23.26 seconds and was second out of 41 in the 100 meters in 11.41 seconds. The combination of freshman Tim Scheftic (Dryden), freshman Andre Venner (Spring Valley/Hawthorne Christian), junior Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and Karpinski finished fourth in the 4x100-meter relay in 43.92 seconds.

Junior Ken Bucaro (Tully) won the pole vault by clearing 4.35 meters. Three other Red Dragons – freshman Tom Calandra (Williamsville/Williamsville North), sophomore Daniel Fugazot (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and senior Schuyler Field (Queensbury) – each recorded pole vaults of 4.20 meters. Due to number of misses, Calandra and Fugazot tied for second and Field finished fifth.

McManus finished fourth in the 200 meters (24.33) and 11th in the 100 meters (11.70). Sophomore Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) and sophomore Mitch Galvin (Oswego) finished fifth and seventh in the 200 meters in 24.68 seconds and 25.02 seconds, respectively.

Cortland claimed three of the top four spots in the triple jump. Senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) finished second at 13.39 meters, followed by freshman Kenny Sinclair (Rochester/James Monroe) in third (13.10 meters) and sophomore P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) in fourth (13.03 meters). In the long jump, junior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) was second out of 18 competitors at 6.51 meters and Scheftic finished fourth at 6.08 meters.

Sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed fourth out of 21 in the shot put (13.72 meters) and freshman Michael Belluzzi (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) was fifth of 23 in the javelin (48.43 meters).
