WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior
Abby Vander Veen's (Delanson/Faith Bible Academy) ECAC-qualifying performance in the 400-meter dash led Cortland's efforts at the West Point Open.
Vander Veen finished third out of 30 entrants with her 400-meter time of 59.82 seconds. Freshman
Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) finished seventh (1:01.07) and freshman
Trisha Clark (Pulaski) was eighth (1:01.71).
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior
Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished fourth in 1:10.20 and junior
Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) was fifth in 1:11.52. Junior
Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) finished seventh out of 22 in the 100-meter dash in 13.99 seconds.
Three Red Dragons finished in the top 10 in the 200-meter dash. Junior
Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) was fourth out of 23 sprinters in 27.78 seconds. Freshman
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) placed sixth (28.58) and freshman
Jackie Hoffman (Lancaster) finished 10th (29.67).
In the field events, junior
Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) finished fourth of 13 in the javelin (25.38 meters) and 11th of 27 in the shot put (10.42 meters). Sophomore
Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was fifth in the javelin (22.90 meters) and ninth in the discus (32.87 meters), and sophomore
Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) finished seventh in both the long jump (4.97 meters) and the triple jump (10.75 meters).
Freshman
Kelly Hugo (Highland) placed second in the pole vault (3.05 meters), sophomore
Karli Johnson (Mount Sinai) was seventh in the discus (34.22 meters), Bonnell placed eighth in the long jump (4.94 meters) and sophomore
Jess Andrianos (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 11th in the discus (31.94 meters).
