Sullivan, Gansle Wins Events at Hamilton Invitational

Caitlin Sullivan defeated 21 runners to capture the 1,500 meters
CLINTON, N.Y. – Senior Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira/Thomas A. Edison) and junior Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) each won events as Cortland sent competitors to the Hamilton College Continental Invitational women's outdoor track and field meet.

Sullivan defeated 21 other runners in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:59.48. Gansle finished first among 16 athletes in the javelin throw at 28.71 meters (94' 2”) and was sixth out of 20 in the shot put at 10.59 meters (34' 9”).

Senior Kristin Vespa (Ossining) finished second in a 15-runner field in the 5,000 meters (18:49.35). Freshman Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) and freshman Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed second (12:18.34) and third (12:33.75), respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Three Red Dragons finished in the top seven among 17 entries in the discus. Sophomore Jess Andrianos (Syracuse/West Genesee) placed second at 34.32 meters (112' 7”), with sophomore Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in fifth (32.06 meters – 105' 2”) and sophomore Karli Johnson (Mount Sinai) in seventh (30.48 meters – 100' 0”). Lachman and Andrianos also finished sixth (23.52 meters – 77' 2”) and seventh (22.56 meters – 74' 0”), respectively, in the javelin throw and Lachman was seventh in the shot put (10.44 meters – 34' 3”).

In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) finished fourth (5:08.75) and senior Stephanie McGrath (Camillus/West Genesee) was eighth (5:18.13). In addition, senior Kayla Evers (Oneonta/Lighthouse Christian Academy) finished seventh in the hammer throw (35.39 meters – 116' 1”).
