Bisceglia Breaks School 400-Meter Dash Record at Cornell Invitational

Gino Bisceglia's time of 48.09 seconds in the 400-meter dash broke a 12-year-old school record
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland senior Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the 400-meter dash at the Cornell University Big Red Outdoor Invitational men's track and field meet.

Bisceglia finished second in the event in 48.09 seconds. The previous school record was 48.22 seconds by Tim Buckenmeyer in 1999.

Bisceglia also anchored Cortland's winning 4x400-meter relay team that provisionally qualified for nationals in 3:15.88. Sophomore Eric Banks (Westbury), junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) and senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal) were the other sprinters on that relay team.

Two Red Dragon long jumpers recorded NCAA provisional distances. Sophomore Josh Daves (Huntington) finished third at 7.25 meters (23' 9.5”) and freshman Tim Scheftic (Dryden) was fifth at 7.12 meters (23' 4.5”). Junior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) placed seventh at 7.04 meters (23' 1.25”), an ECAC Div. III Championship qualifier that missed NCAA provisional status by just one centimeter.

Sophomore Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) won the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 15.07 meters (49' 5.5”). In the triple jump, senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) finished second at 14.08 meters (45' 2.5”) and sophomore P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) was third at 14.03 meters (46' 0.5”), both ECAC qualifiers. Cortland also had two ECAC pole vault qualifiers – junior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) finished second (4.65 meters – 15' 3”) and junior Ken Bucaro (Tully) was seventh (4.50 meters – 14' 9”).

Freshman Cody Amengual (West Babylon) posted ECAC qualifying times in two races. He was fourth in the 800 meters (1:55.03) and fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:01.07).

Banks and Farnham-Haskell were ECAC qualifiers in the 400-meter dash. Banks finished fourth (48.79) and Farnham-Haskell was sixth (48.85). Wiltshire posted an ECAC time in the 400-meter hurdles (sixth place, 55.14) and senior Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) was an ECAC qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles (11th place, 15.54).

Cortland also reached the ECAC standard in the 4x100-meter relay as Scheftic, freshman Andre Venner (Spring Valley/Hawthorne Christian), junior Dan McManus (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and sophomore Zac Karpinski (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished fourth in 42.94 seconds.

Freshman Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished fourth in the hammer throw (44.92 meters – 147' 4”) and eighth in the discus (39.59 meters – 129' 11”).
