Victorious Relays and Many ECAC Qualifiers at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland tuned up for next weekend's SUNYAC Championships with a number of strong performances at the Cornell University Big Red Outdoor Invitational women's track and field meet.

The Red Dragons won both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays with ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying times. Junior Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough), junior Jenna Evarts (West Islip), junior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) and freshman Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won the 4x100 in 49.27 seconds, while Evarts, Montrose, junior Val Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) and freshman Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 4x400 in 4:00.09.

Another Cortland 4x400-meter relay team also ran an ECAC time – freshman Trisha Clark (Pulaski), junior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa), sophomore Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) and sophomore Lex Grable (Pine Bush) placed third in 4:08.86.

Evarts finished second in the 100-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying 12.75 seconds. Freshman Tara Kickel (West Islip) was fifth in 13.10 seconds. Bonnell and Montrose each qualified for the ECACs in the 200-meter dash – Bonnell finished fourth in 26.20 seconds and Montrose was fifth in 26.22 seconds.

Graduate student Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) finished third in the high jump at 1.65 meters (5' 5”), an NCAA provisional qualifying height. She's reached that standard numerous times this spring.

Naylon finished fourth in the 800 meters in an ECAC time of 2:17.19. In the 400-meter dash, Reilly was fifth with an ECAC time of 59.14 seconds and Grable finished eighth in 1:00.55.

Three Red Dragons qualified for ECACs in the 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) advanced to the finals with her prelim time of 15.47 seconds and finished eighth in the finals (15.68). Sophomore Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) was ninth (15.51) and junior Brenna Filipello (Selkirk/Bethlehem) placed 12th (16.24).

Sophomore Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) posted an ECAC distance of 11.30 meters (37' 1”) for a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. She also tied for eighth in the long jump at 5.13 meters (16' 10”).

Sophomore Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished third in the shot put at 10.91 meters (35' 9.5”) and sixth in the discus at 34.40 meters (112' 10”). Junior Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) was fourth in the shot put (10.89 meters – 35' 8.75”) and fifth in the javelin (31.65 meters – 103' 10”).

Sophomore Jess Andrianos (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished third in the discus (38.30 meters – 125' 8”), while sophomore Karli Johnson (Mount Sinai) placed seventh in the event (33.82 meters – 110' 11”). Senior Kayla Evers (Oneonta/Lighthouse Christian Academy) finished eighth in the hammer throw (36.65 meters – 120' 3”).

Cortland placed thee in the top nine in the 400-meter hurdles. Henry finished third in 1:07.59, Basciano was sixth in 1:08.50 and sophomore Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) finished ninth in 1:09.23.
