Gino Bisceglia earned All-America honors in two individual events and one relay during his career at Cortland
DELAWARE, OHIO - Cortland senior
Gino Bisceglia (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished in the third place in the 400-meter dash finals to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day competition concluded Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Bisceglia broke his own school record in the event for the second straight day with his time of 47.50 seconds. He entered nationals as the school record-holder at 47.75 seconds, then broke the mark in Friday's preliminaries at 47.71 seconds to advance to the finals.
In the championship race, Bisceglia and two other sprinters jumped out in the lead pack. Toward the end of the race, however, that group started to separate slightly and Bisceglia held off a charge from the fourth-place runner to preserve his third-place finish. Dan Benton of North Central College won the race in 46.84 seconds, followed by LaVerne's Marcus Fortugno at 47.32 seconds. Kevin Curbello of Whittier was fourth in 47.73 seconds.
Bisceglia finishes his career with three All-America honors. He placed eighth in the indoor 400-meter dash in 2010 and was part of a seventh-place 4x400-meter relay team at last year's outdoor national championships.
Bisceglia's finish earned six points for the Red Dragons, who tied for 35th in the final team standings. North Central won the team title.
